사이먼 앤드 가펑클(Simon and Garfunkel)은 폴 사이먼과 아트 가펑클이 구성한 미국의 2인조 음악

그룹입니다. 폴 사이먼과 아트 가펑글은 어린 시절 친구 간이었으며, 1960년대에 큰 명성을 얻었습니다.

대표 곡으로는 〈The Sound of Silence〉, 〈Mrs. Robinson〉, 〈Bridge over Troubled Water〉

등이며, 이 곡들은 모두 폴 사이먼에 의해 작곡된 것이지요.

사이먼 앤드 가펑클이 1981년 진행했던 뉴욕 시 센트럴 파크에서의 무료 공연은, 약 50만명의

 관객을 동원하며 역사상 가장 큰 공연으로 기록되어 있습니다

안녕 어둠이여 내 오랜 벗
너와 다시 얘기하러 왔어
내가 잠든 사이에 어떤 허깨비가
살며시 기어와 씨를 뿌리고 갔거든

아직도 남아 있어 소리없는 소리 속에

들뜬 꿈속에서 자갈이 깔린
좁은 골목길을 홀로 걸었어
가로등 불빛 아래서
난 추위와 눅눅함으로 옷깃을 올려 세웠지
네온빛의 반짝임으로
찌르는 듯이 눈이 부실 때
그 불빛은 밤을 찢어 쪼개고
어루 만졌지 소리없는 소리를

People hearing without listening 
People writing songs that voices never share

내가 본 벌거숭이 불빛 속에서
만 명 어쩌면 더 많은 사람들이
말하지 않고 이야기하고
귀기울이지 않고 듣고
목소리가 나눠가지지 않는 노래를 쓰고 있었어
그리고 아무도 감히
깨뜨리지 못했지 그 소리없는 소리를

"Fools" said I "you do not know  
Silence like a cancer grows" 
"Hear my words that I might teach you 
Take my arms that I might reach you" 
But my words like silent raindrops fell  
And echoed in the wells of silence 

"바보들" 내가 이르길 "그대들은 모르네
소리없음이 암이 자라는 것과 같다는 걸
가르침을 줄지도 모를 내 말을 들어요"
그대들에게 다다를지도 모를 내 팔을 잡아요
하지만 나의 얘기는 소리없이 내리는 빗방울처럼
소리없는 샘 안에서 메아리 쳤어

사람들은 절하고 기도하지
스스로가 만든 네온 신에게
그 몸짓은 경고를 반짝이며 토해내고
